Diabetes Detect
What it is
The Diabetes Detect test is a screening profile designed to identify early signs of diabetes or prediabetes. It typically combines blood glucose measurement, HbA1c levels, and in some cases additional markers such as lipid profile or urine glucose to provide a clear picture of blood sugar control. This test helps detect diabetes at an early stage, even before symptoms appear.
Uses
This test is used to screen for diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) and prediabetes. It is also useful for monitoring individuals with risk factors such as obesity, family history of diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, hypertension, or high cholesterol. In diagnosed diabetics, it may assist in evaluating blood sugar management and identifying potential complications.
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
Doctors may recommend this test if you experience persistent symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, constant fatigue, blurred vision, slow-healing wounds, or recurrent infections. It is also advised for individuals with high-risk factors even in the absence of symptoms.
Abnormal Results
High Blood Glucose / HbA1c: Suggests diabetes or prediabetes, depending on the degree of elevation. Early diagnosis allows for lifestyle changes and treatment to prevent complications.
Normal Results: Indicate no evidence of diabetes at the time of testing, though periodic monitoring is recommended for high-risk individuals.
Risks
The test requires a routine blood sample. Risks are minimal, including slight pain, bruising, or dizziness at the puncture site. These are temporary and uncommon.
