Anaemia Monitor
What it is
The Anaemia Monitor is a specialized blood test panel designed to track the status of anaemia over time. Unlike a one-time screening, it provides ongoing evaluation of key blood parameters such as hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cell indices, iron studies, and vitamin levels. This test is particularly useful for patients already diagnosed with anaemia and undergoing treatment or monitoring for chronic conditions.
Uses
This test is used to assess treatment response in patients with anaemia caused by iron deficiency, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, chronic disease, or blood loss. It helps clinicians determine if supplementation, diet, or medications are improving blood counts. It is also valuable in long-term monitoring of patients with chronic kidney disease, cancer therapy, gastrointestinal bleeding, or other conditions where anaemia is common.
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
Doctors may recommend this test for patients who continue to experience fatigue, weakness, dizziness, pale skin, irregular heartbeat, or shortness of breath despite starting treatment for anaemia. It is also ordered routinely during follow-up visits to monitor stability and progress.
Abnormal Results
Improving Results: Rising hemoglobin and normalized iron/vitamin levels suggest successful treatment response.
Persistent Low Levels: May indicate ongoing blood loss, poor absorption of nutrients, chronic illness, or inadequate treatment response.
Worsening Values: Can signal complications, disease progression, or the need to change therapy.
Risks
The test involves routine blood draws, with minimal risks such as slight pain, bruising,
