KFT Advance (Kidney Function Test – Advanced Panel)
What it is
The KFT Advance is a comprehensive kidney function test panel that measures multiple parameters to assess how well the kidneys are working. It typically includes tests such as serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), uric acid, electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride), calcium, phosphorus, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). This advanced profile gives a detailed picture of kidney health and related metabolic balance.
Uses
This panel is used to diagnose and monitor kidney disease, evaluate the effects of conditions like diabetes and hypertension on kidney health, and guide treatment decisions. It may also be ordered before surgeries, during routine health check-ups, or to monitor the impact of medications that can affect kidney function.
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
Doctors may recommend a KFT Advance if you experience symptoms such as swelling in legs or around the eyes, fatigue, changes in urine output, foamy or bloody urine, nausea, vomiting, or unexplained high blood pressure. It is also frequently ordered in patients with diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of kidney disease.
Abnormal Results
Elevated Creatinine and BUN: May suggest reduced kidney function, dehydration, or kidney disease.
Electrolyte Imbalances: Abnormal sodium, potassium, or chloride levels may point to impaired kidney regulation or other systemic conditions.
Low eGFR: Indicates decreased filtration capacity, a key marker for chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Abnormal Calcium or Phosphorus: May reflect kidney-related bone and mineral metabolism issues, common in advanced CKD.
Risks
The test involves a routine blood draw, which carries minimal risks such as mild pain, bruising, or dizziness at the puncture site. In some cases, a urine sample may also be required, which is completely non-invasive.
