Kidney Profile Mini
What it is
The Kidney Profile Mini is a basic screening panel that measures essential blood markers to evaluate kidney health. It generally includes serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), uric acid, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). These parameters help assess how efficiently the kidneys are filtering waste products and maintaining overall metabolic balance.
Uses
This test is used for early detection of kidney impairment, routine monitoring in individuals at risk of kidney disease, and follow-up for patients on medications that may affect kidney function. It is also commonly included in preventive health check-ups and pre-surgical evaluations.
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
Doctors may recommend the Kidney Profile Mini if you experience persistent fatigue, swelling in the legs or around the eyes, changes in urination (too little, too frequent, or foamy urine), high blood pressure, nausea, or unexplained weight loss. It is especially important for individuals with diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of kidney disease.
Abnormal Results
High Creatinine or BUN: Suggests reduced kidney function, dehydration, or early kidney disease.
Low eGFR: Indicates decreased filtering capacity, which may point to chronic kidney disease.
High Uric Acid: May suggest impaired kidney clearance, gout, or metabolic issues.
Risks
The test requires a routine blood draw, which carries minimal risks such as slight pain, bruising, or dizziness at the puncture site. Serious complications are very rare.
