What it is

The Fatigue Panel 1 is a collection of blood tests designed to evaluate common underlying causes of persistent tiredness, weakness, and low energy. Because fatigue can arise from several conditions—including anemia, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid imbalance, or metabolic disorders—this panel helps identify key health issues contributing to the symptoms.

Uses

This test provides a broad screening tool for doctors to investigate unexplained fatigue. While exact components may vary by laboratory, Fatigue Panel 1 typically includes:

• Complete Blood Count (CBC): Screens for anemia, infection, or immune problems.
• Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): Evaluates thyroid function to rule out hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
• Vitamin B12 and Folate: Detects deficiencies that can cause tiredness, weakness, or neurological changes.
• Iron Studies (Ferritin, Serum Iron, TIBC): Checks for iron-deficiency anemia.
• Blood Glucose or HbA1c: Assesses diabetes or abnormal sugar control as a cause of fatigue.

Symptoms That May Lead to the Test

Doctors may recommend Fatigue Panel 1 if you experience ongoing tiredness, difficulty concentrating, unexplained weakness, dizziness, pallor, frequent infections, mood changes, or sleep disturbances. It is also considered when lifestyle causes (like poor sleep or stress) have been excluded and medical causes are suspected.

Abnormal Results

Anemia: Low hemoglobin or abnormal iron studies may point to iron-deficiency or other types of anemia.

Thyroid Disorders: Abnormal TSH levels can indicate underactive or overactive thyroid as a cause of fatigue.

Vitamin Deficiencies: Low vitamin B12 or folate levels can lead to fatigue, nerve-related issues, or megaloblastic anemia.

Glucose Abnormalities: High glucose or HbA1c may suggest diabetes, while low sugar may explain episodes of fatigue or weakness.

Risks

The test requires a routine blood draw. Risks are minimal and limited to mild bruising, soreness, or dizziness at the puncture site, all of which are temporary
