Fever Panel Basic – Mini
What it is
The Fever Panel Basic – Mini is a simplified diagnostic package designed to screen for the most common infections that cause acute fever. It is a cost-effective option that provides essential information for early diagnosis and management, especially in areas where fever-related illnesses are widespread.
Uses
This panel is recommended for patients with sudden or unexplained fever. While the exact composition may vary by laboratory, the Fever Panel Basic – Mini usually includes:
- Dengue NS1 Antigen or IgM: Detects early dengue virus infection.
- Malaria Antigen (Rapid test or smear): Identifies Plasmodium parasites responsible for malaria.
- Typhoid IgM / Widal Test: Screens for Salmonella typhi infection.
Unlike the full basic panel, this mini version may exclude extended blood counts and inflammatory markers, focusing only on the key infections.
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
This test is recommended if you have persistent or acute fever along with chills, body pain, headache, weakness, rash, abdominal discomfort, or unexplained fatigue. It is especially useful in regions where dengue, malaria, and typhoid are endemic.
Abnormal Results
Positive Dengue, Malaria, or Typhoid Test: Confirms infection and helps guide targeted treatment quickly.
Negative Results: Suggests the need for further evaluation for other infectious or non-infectious causes of fever.
Risks
The test requires a routine blood sample. Risks are minimal and include slight discomfort, bruising, or dizziness at the puncture site. These effects are uncommon and temporary.
