What it is:
The Urine for Chyle test checks for the presence of chyle (lymphatic fluid containing emulsified fats) in urine. Chyle gives urine a milky or cloudy appearance and usually indicates a leakage of lymphatic fluid into the urinary tract.
Uses
-
Detect chyluria (chyle in urine)
-
Investigate causes of milky-white urine
-
Diagnose and monitor conditions such as:
-
Parasitic infections (especially filariasis caused by Wuchereria bancrofti)
-
Trauma or surgery damaging lymphatic vessels
-
Lymphatic obstruction due to tumors or congenital malformations
-
Symptoms That May Lead to the Test
-
Milky or cloudy urine (classic feature)
-
Passing of fats or clots in urine
-
Dysuria (painful urination)
-
Hematuria (blood in urine)
-
Weight loss, malnutrition, or weakness in chronic cases

Recurrent urinary tract infections
Abnormal Results
-
Positive (chyle present):
-
Parasitic filariasis (most common cause worldwide)
-
Lymphatic obstruction by tumors or enlarged lymph nodes
-
Post-surgical or post-traumatic lymphatic leaks
-
Congenital lymphatic abnormalities
-
-
Negative:
-
Normal; no chyle detected
-
Risks
-
No direct risks; simple urine test.
-
Requires a fresh urine sample, as chyle may separate and settle on standing.
